Our 1963 GMC transit
bus, commonly referred to as a "fishbowl", began
its life as a city transit bus
on
the
streets
of Tacoma, Washington. After many years
of dedicated service it found its way to us.
I do not believe that we ever would have initially imagined ourselves
with this bus, but once we stepped on board there was no question.
From the beginning, the "homebus"( as our son would
grow to call her) became a trusted alli in our quest for more
fulfilling lives.
We have always had high expectations for the
bus and our future with it. We toyed with the obvious idea
of writting a book about our travels, but this did not seem
to entirely fit the bill. The bus is designed to carry many people
and in a way, it seemed to be begging us to put her back in "service".
To meet that end, we are currently in the process of re-renovating
the bus to better accomodate our groups. When the renovations
are
complete
the bus will be able to comfortably sleep up to 14 people, will
be sporting a new paint job and will undergo a conversion which
will allow it to run on SVO biodiesel (vegetable
oil) and solar power. |
