6/24/12: "Homebus" Rides Again
SWA in NYCSqueaky Wheel Adventures Update:

Well it has been a very interesting 10 months for SWA. As many of you know, we made the decision to purchase a larger bus last August in order to ensure the longevity of SWA by increasing our capacity to a point that the trips could become self-supporting. This was a great idea, the bus was amazing and we even succeeded in this goal with several trips this past winter and spring. We did not, however, find the same kind of success in our grant writing requests to help make this transition to the newer bus. So, as we have personally continued to make very large bus payments (with the expectation of some day getting paid back) and we have also needed to make some tough decisions regarding the future of SWA.

We continue to see the value in our trips and are every bit as excited to travel with the kids as ever. So, at least for now, we have sent the newer bus back south to sell (hopefully soon!) and have returned to our trusted old friend (the "Homebus") for two trips this summer. We had a full trip scheduled to New York City (12 kids based on the newer bus) and have been working on splitting them between the NYC trip and an added trip to Montreal. (There will be a second email with the Montreal trip details - there is still a spot or two left!)

3/5/12: Bryan has posted another trip story - 2012 Quebec Trip
It is always difficult to convey what an SWA trip encompasses but this story gives at least a glimpse into life on the SWA bus. Read the story at - Trip Stories

2/20/12: Bryan Wolf is interviewed again on WABI TV5

1/19/12: SWA receives unexpected donation from Pingree School
How do we keep going? This is a question that I ask myself sometimes?.. Through conversations with a friend this past fall a connection was made which lead to the Pingree School in S. Hamilton, MA, running a "Smoothie" fundraiser for SWA and us receiving an unexpected donation check this week for $370! It is hard for us to express our deep gratitude for their support. If you would like to read more about the Pingree School visit their website at - http://www.pingree.org/

1/17/12: SWA met with Tanglewood 4-h Camp to discuss collaboration
As part of SWA's expansion into additional youth offerings, Bryan met with the camp director of Tanglewood Camp in Lincolnville, ME to discuss trip offerings. This seems to be another great partnership between the two camps in which both organizations share similar philosophies and focus. SWA is currently working on a couple of trip offerings with Tanglewood and hope to have them posted soon.

12/18/11: SWA receives 2 grants! One from the Equity Fund and one from YLAT -
The Equity Fund grant is for our LGBT programming and the Youth Leadership Advisory Team voted to award SWA a Creative Opportunities Grant for Foster Care programming. We have been writing grant requests until our hands hurt since we have purchased the new bus and we are, as always, extremely excited by this news.

As you can read now on our website, we have been expanding our programming and as very enthusiastic about our LGBT programming. Like any new programming their are many things to consider and a little funding to get the ball rolling is terrific.

The YLAT grant is particularly special to us since it was voted on by the very group of kids that we have focused our programming towards. We have taken a big leap in the purchased of our new bus and this grant is instrumental in helping with this acquisition.
