| When you step on
our 1963 converted transit bus you embark on an epic adventure
with a clear objective - have fun, explorer, learn and share.
Each of our trips has a unique itinerary based upon our departure
location
and accessible points of interest. We visit places which
offer opportunities for education, fun, adventure and relaxation.Trip
itineraries may include things like; horseback riding, rafting,
swimming, wall climbing, museums, hiking, kayaking, canoeing,
concerts, and theme parks. Although the general outline of
each trip will be planned in advanced, we
strive to maintain flexibility in order to accommodate the
unique needs and desires of each
trip's participants.
Supervised
by our trip leaders and
volunteer counselors, participants share in
the daily responsibilities of the group including cooking,
cleaning,
setting up camp,
maintaining the bus' alternative fuel systems (SVO
biodiesel and solar) and trip planning. We believe that working together
to accomplish common goals facilitates self improvement and
allows for
relationship building.
Squeaky Wheel Adventures was adapted from Material Comforts,
an organization dedicated to creating quilts for children
in care. We believe that a gift made with ones heart and hands
can have a profound affect on the recipient. For this reason
we have incorporated a quilt program into SWA. As
each child finds
their bunk
on
the bus
they
will
be greeted
by a small, unfinished quilt that
they will work on throughout the trip and present to their
sibling at the end of our journey.
It is our hope
that
this
project
will provide an avenue for brothers and sisters to reflect
on and
share
their
feelings
toward one another in a lasting and practical way.
